Description Mati Ventrillon’s inspiration comes from the technique of creating patterns with multiple colours that was first used by women of Fair Isle more than two centuries ago. Her designs, which have featured on the Chanel catwalk, include contemporary versions of jumpers, scarves and fingerless gloves, as well as the traditional fishermen’s hats known as keps. The patterns demonstrate how to experiment with colour and play with backgrounds. They are accopanied by expert tips on yarns and finishing, along with inspirational photography that provides a window on life on this most remote Scottish islands. All the garments in this book have been created following the traditional way of knitting in Fair Isle, with full repeats of 24-stitch motifs, both horizontal and vertical; therefore, different tensions have been used for each garment size.
